Specialist Areas –
My expertise and interest is on anxiety spectrum disorders. Although a normal reaction in times of danger, anxiety can become a problem when we anticipate threat or feel vulnerable. This affects the way we thinking, our mood, bodily sensations and behaviour.
Using CBT and with support from the therapist, a person can learn to understand there behaviour and symptoms and devise strategies to manage them in a more helpful way.
Anxiety takes many forms. Some people worry all the time, believing that worry is helpful, while others feel unable to give talks or presentations in front of others or mix socially. They may believe they will make a fool of themselves and that others will judge them. For others anxiety it may lead to panic attacks.
My experience of working with older people has led to an increased interest in this group and my belief that older people can benefit from therapy and have a right to be able access appropriate therapy.
The main problems I work with in the elderly are: Depression, Anxiety, Loss and Adjustment. Also Bereavement and Mild memory impairment.
